About me

So, a little about me and the motives for trip to West Africa.

For those of you who don’t know what I do, I’m a forensic accountant…if you’re not sure what one of these do, well in a nutshell, I dig the dirt on numbers.

Outside of work, I’m pretty active and love travelling. I’m a club level cyclist, hasher and boot camp enthusiast. I have competed in the Etape du Tour (held annually in France in either the Alps or Pyrenees). It is a challenging ride and requires a good level of fitness and the right mental state of mind to complete. I am fortunate to have completed this 3 times and to have beaten the broom wagon with time to spare! I also take part in other sportive events within the UK and Europe.

I have traveled extensively world wide and prefer to travel off the tourist trail. In 2005 I undertook a solo trip to Timbuktu in Mali, West Africa, fulfilling my childhood dream. Apart from the actual travel experience, it allowed me to meet people from one of the poorest countries in the world and to appreciate their good humour. I enjoy world music and am particularly influenced by music from West Africa.

As a competent photographer, I will be taking along a couple of cameras to record the peoples and landscapes along the way, together with a digital recorder to capture the some of the musical highlights of those countries.
